We are sad to announce the passing of Bill Ray, Chairman, PEM Ltd

It is with great sadness that we announce that Bill Ray, Chairman and co-founder of PEM Ltd, has died following a short illness on 15th June 2019.

Bill Ray

Founded in 1991 PEM was the second company Bill was involved in creating after the sale of his first company SRD Ltd which had pioneered the Switched Reluctance Motor Drive. His brilliance helped to position PEM as a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of the general purpose wide-band Rogowski Transducer. Previously this technology was relatively unknown and only used for a few specialist applications.

Prior to forming PEM, Bill spent many years as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nottingham in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering department and was a well-respected figure in the world of academia serving on various IET and EPE committees.

During his time at PEM, firstly as Managing Director and later Chairman, Bill never lost his enthusiasm in the research and development of Rogowski technology and was always interested in discussing new techniques for measuring electrical quantities.

His passing is a great loss to all at PEM and the industry has lost a truly inspirational expert in power electronics, control and measurement. Our thoughts are with Bill’s family and his many friends in both his personal and work life.
