Celebrating 25 Years Measuring Success

25 years ago, two Senior Lecturers from the University of Nottingham, Bill Ray and Rex Davies, embarked on an adventure which led to the successful company that we know today. Power Electronic Measurements Ltd (PEM) is celebrating 25 years in the industry and is proud to be recognised as a global technology leader in the design and manufacture of wide-bandwidth AC current measuring devices based on Rogowski technology.

25 YearsSince those early days, operating from home, the company now has a workforce of 24 which includes manufacturing, product development, sales and support, all sited at the company’s HQ in Long Eaton, Nottingham, UK. R & D remains an important part of the company’s philosophy having recently invested over £100k on new lab facilities and the addition of Dr Andrew Goodman and Dr Alice Clifford strengthening the already talented technical team.

Founder Director Bill Ray is now PEM’s Chairman and Rex Davis has retired. One of our earliest recruits, Dr Chris Hewson, joined back in 1999 after completing his PhD on Electrical Motor Drives at the University of Nottingham and subsequently became a director in 2002. Chris is now CEO and has overseen the rapid growth of PEM and is still very much involved in the research and development of Rogowski technology. Bill and Chris are joined on the board by Joanne Aberdeen, Director of Engineering. Jo joined PEM in 2004 after gaining a first class honours degree in Electronic Engineering from Loughborough University.

As the need for measuring higher frequency, wide bandwidth and faster switching is a constant requirement, PEM has risen to the challenge by developing its CWT and RCT ranges to meet these needs. Products such as the latest CWT MiniHF, featuring a novel electrostatic shielded Rogowski coil, has been designed to measure the AC current for the next generation semiconductors using the latest Silicon Carbide technology.

Quality, technical expertise and competitive edge are all attributes to PEM’s success over the past 25 years. During this time, we have filed several patents and counts many of the world’s leading engineering companies and research institutions as its customers. Expanding sales both direct and through a network of specialist global distributors sees the company exporting to over 35 countries worldwide and we are confident that this is one trend that will continue for many years to come.
